Moving "Bliss"

Ok. The movers are here and thus far this experience has been anything but blissful. *sigh*. Let me update you a bit. I shopped around for moving companies & quickly realized that this particular industry is riddled with deceptive business practices. Now that's certainly not to say that all moving companies fit this category but there are far too many that appear to. So after much deliberation I settled with a company based in Georgia. Upon speaking with the booking agent numerous time, I was assured that I would receive quality service. Well, I'm a bit disappointed. Mainly because what I was told (and agreed to in writing) was either not conveyed to the movers and dispatcher or was not actually company policy. As of now, I think we are ok other than the fact that it's midnight and I'm still at my house in Huntsville and the movers are still working. *sigh*. I just tell myself that in just a few days I will be settled and getting comfy in my new home...for now, I will try to maintain my sanity and not make a bad situation worse. Pray for me!!

Priceless

So I met with a representative from the moving company today. It was quite an eye-opener for me that I'm really moving in less than two weeks! I begin work exactly two weeks from today. This evening I spoke to Dr. Eagle, the outgoing principal. We talked about getting the office ready and a bit about the summer programs that are in progress or starting soon. One thing that excites me about SHS is the fact that there are some wonderful programs already in place. There's a reading intervention program and also a Science and Math Academy; both of which have already shown promising growth in student achievement. I love that! Can't wait to see these programs in action! A good bit of my remaining time in Huntsville will consist of meeting up with friends for lunch, dinner, happy hour, etc. Again bitter sweet. I have forged some wonderful relationships and I will truly miss my friends. They are like family to me! My intent is to visit and stay in touch with them. My daughter will be staying here to complete her senior year (more on that later!) so of course I will visit regularly. I just hope that we can really stay in touch. That seems easier said than done but surely Facebook, email, texting and such will make a difference! I hope so because good friends are priceless!

God Doesn't Make Mistakes

Welcome to my blog, Home Sweet Home! Robin Hobb said, "Home is people. Not a place. If you go back there after the people are gone, then all you can see is what is not there anymore." Hmmmm...true enough, the people we love can define where we call home; however, for me it is also a place that is dear to my heart because it is where my life began and many cherished memories were formed. So when given the opportunity to come back home, well it was a no-brainer! I should say pursuing it was a no-brainer, but the reality of it is pretty overwhelming. You see, I moved from Salisbury shortly after my 18th birthday, joined the Army and left home for 25 years. Now, my life is coming full circle. God doesn't make mistakes so I don't question the opportunity. Still, it has been difficult for me to truly quantify exactly how I feel about this new chapter in my life. This blog will serve as a journal of my thoughts, feelings, fears and celebrations as I make this move. I visited Salisbury a few weeks ago and met my new teachers, staff and some students. It was exciting to say the least! I admit it felt great to be introduced as the new principal of Salisbury High School. Wow. My family, friends and classmates have expressed their joy and pride that I'm coming home and it has been extremely humbling for me. Several people have stated that my mother would be so proud of me! Now that truly means a lot and I so wish that she could be here. Coming home without parents is the bitter part of this bitter sweet journey. God doesn't make mistakes so I must prepare myself for what's ahead. I will move in about 10 days. I'm taking volunteers to help pack and clean :-)
